GoPro: Power In, Video Out

2012-09-02

There have been hacks around for some time to power the GoPro through the USB port or the expansion port. Now, you can power a GoPro through the expansion port while getting live video out through the same port.

The main advantage to external power is reducing weight of the GoPro and eliminating one more battery level to monitor during FPV flights.

I picked up this small board from ReadyMadeRC. After soldering 3 wires on and hooking it up to my TBS Core OSD, it worked! I tried it with both my GoPro HD Hero and Hero2.

Can the GoPro record video while we’re getting the video out for FPV?

Also, can this board activate the shutter button? (If it can activate the mode button I’d assume it’s possible.)

If I connect pin1 and pin 2 (ground and mode) the camera starts. But if I connect it again to stop it it don’t work the camera continue to work. What have I to do to stop the camera using pin1 and pin 2?
    Thanks

I haven’t tried the start/stop myself but it looks like your camera has to be set to 1-button record. Then shorting the mode pin will turn the camera on and immediately start recording. I assume doing this again will stop recording and then turn the camera off. Unfortunately doesn’t seem to be a way to only start/stop recording with this board.

Is there any latency using the gopro like this compared to a regular fpv camera?

      I haven’t experienced any with the Hero2
