I will keep this short as I don’t want to come off as ranting or preachy. We all know there is plenty of bad press out right now about drones. The general public doesn’t know the difference between military drones and hobby UAVs. Despite this, there are countries/states/cities wanting to outlaw the use of all kinds of drones.
What can you do? Well besides trying to speak out to government representatives, there is something very simple you can do. If you see others posting videos flying over people or other populated urban areas, make a comment about how dangerous their actions were. Or even simpler, hit the dislike button on YouTube!
I know there are cases where people do have permission to fly in these situations or even better have insurance to cover damages. However, most pilots don’t have either of those. I know there are arguments like “I was being careful” or “I have really reliable equipment”. Doesn’t matter. Failures happen. Someone else’s safety isn’t worth any amount of video hits on the internet.
Please don’t ruin this hobby for everyone else.
I also apologize for titling this post with the word “drone” in it. We should be helping to distinguish the difference between a drone that is operated from a great distance and a hobby copter/plane.
