I recently took a trip with my family to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. I brought along with me a DJI Phantom (v1.1.1) that I picked up on an Amazon flash sale a few months ago. Just before the trip I added the new Tarot T-2D v2 gimbal to it and got a 5.8ghz receiver for my FatShark Dominators. This made for a rather compact setup for international travel and to hike with in/on a backpack.
This was my first time taking a copter on an airplane and I managed to pack all the gear in a Nanuk 940 case which is airline carry-on sized. I had no issues getting everything through security except on the way back. They didn’t like my little hex wrenches and a pair of pliers I had so I had to check the whole case (no big deal).
When I arrived I noticed it was quite windy almost all day every day. However, two of the mornings I got up at sunrise and it was nice and calm for flying. The Tarot gimbal worked out quite well. When I first got it, the settings were too aggressive and the motors would buzz and cause jello in my footage. I turned the settings down a bit and the problem has mostly gone away.
Here is some photo and video from around Lands End in Cabo San Lucas…
